During the 2022-2023 school year, 15 Washington State nonprofit organizations, including 11 RFEGs, brought the Salmon in the Schools program to 150 high-poverty elementary schools throughout Washington State. Last year the program served over 11,000 students, 294 educators, and 68 school districts.
In the spring of 2023, the Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group successfully renewed this partnership’s grant contract with the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, meaning the Salmon in the Schools program will receive $465,000 each year for the next two years. These 15 partners are continuing to work together to bring this program to more schools each year, discover ways to make the program even more successful and engaging, as well as collaborate together to secure additional funding sources to support our Salmon in the Schools efforts.
Details on the partnership, program and impact can be found on the Salmon in the Schools website, wasalmonintheschools.org.
