Community Engagement in Auburn Parks

Since 2019, Mid Sound has partnered with the City of Auburn to engage community to restore riparian vegetation in several of their parks that on the Lower Green River.

The project is increasing the tree canopy along the Lower Green – in high priority areas for salmon –  to create more shade and cool water temperatures for salmon.

253 Volunteers have chipped in with over 750 hours of work. They planted 767 native plants and cleared 5,000 square feet of blackberry.

In addition, these parks serve as outdoor classrooms for our education work. We worked with Auburn High School students to do 2 events to maintain 500 square feet of understory and plant 75 trees in Fenster Park. In the spring, Cascade Middle School brought out 63 kids to Isaac Evans Park and helped plant 351 native trees and shrubs!
