The Pacific Coast Salmon Coalition recently completed a 4 year study of 55 off-channel habitat sites restored by WDFW in the early 90’s.

Many of these sites have structures that are now deteriorating and creating fish passage barriers. We surveyed the sites and chose the most critical for restoration. Morganroth Springs is one of the top priority sites we identified.

In 2025, The Pacific Coast Salmon Coalition and US Forest Service will remove a deteriorated structure, installed by WDFW in 1991, and restore the natural conditions and processes of Morganroth Springs by installing three beaver dam analog structures, up to 50 individual logs, digging a side channel, and installing wetland vegatation.

This restoration will provide fish passage for all species and life-stages, restoring 4 miles of valuable rearing and spawning habitat, while also maintaining or improving rearing habitat for juvenile coho without the need for regular maintenance.
