Sound Salmon Solutions

Sound Salmon Solutions (SSS) Salmon in Schools (SITS) program is a hands-on education program that engages elementary through high school students in salmon education and recovery. Our program brings 150 salmon directly to students, providing them with a unique opportunity to get experience with a species that has significant meaning to our ecosystem, history, and culture. 

Over the past three years, SSS SITS program has grown from serving primarily 4th grade students at 8 schools in 2022 to 25 schools in 2024!

We deliver fish tanks to the schools prior to winter break. We deliver 150 wild salmon eggs from nearby hatcheries, including two tribal hatcheries, to the schools throughout January.  We then equip the schools and students with all the necessary materials to care for their salmon until release.

In the coming months, we teach three classes on the life cycle of salmon and their significance. We then host field trips for each school so the students can release their salmon they have raised in nearby parks/natural areas in the upcoming weeks.

From schools as far as Gold Bar Elementary to Quil Ceda Tulalip Elementary, we’re providing this once in a lifetime experience for our students.  We have been so happy to have an overwhelmingly positive response from the teachers and students.
