The Careers in Conservation Summer Program allows high-school students from central Washington to explore career opportunities in fisheries, restoration, and other conservation fields.

During the 6-week program, students learn how to conduct fieldwork safely and effectively, and design, budget, and present a proposal for a project to restore salmon habitat. Student participants collect scientific data on restoration sites and gain familiarity with field techniques, tools, technology.

Students learn about the role of community stakeholders in project implementation while working directly with professional staff from federal, tribal, state, and not-for-profits in a variety of sites. The program includes an overnight campout which is always a highlight for students.

The program is open to public school students, who earn school credit, receive a stipend for participation, and are provided personal field gear.
